GOAL

With the partnership of KOISPE as coordinating body and as partners ELGO DIMITRA with 3 of its research institutes, the Agricultural Development company SYPA O.E., the Veterinary Center of Leros and the Development company EXELIXI, in the context of Measure 16 - Action 2 COOPERATION of the Ministry of Rural Development, the program under the brand name LERICO is being implemented, which foresees the highlighting of the potential of the Bioactive Plants of Leros. In particular, the objective of the Operational Plan (OP) is to utilize the local natural resources for the development of innovative animal production management systems in Leros (specifically the breeding of bees and goats which are the main farmed species on the island). The main objective of LERICO is the application of innovative solutions that can be integrated into the systems of holistic management of animal farms (bee swarms and sheep and goat farms) by utilizing bioactive plants in their nutrition. The utilization of plant resources and the application of innovations in the management of farms aims at the qualitative differentiation of local products with a corresponding environmental and socio-economic impact. The development, evaluation and implementation of holistic disease prevention systems combined with the appropriate breeding system will contribute to: a) ensuring the health of bee colonies and animals (by fighting pathogens), b) utilizing the local flora in animal breeding systems, c) optimization of production and reduction of the environmental footprint of final products, d) production of local quality animal products.
